Spirituality is Triggering

Spirituality is a term that can elicit different  intense reactions from people. While some may embrace it wholeheartedly, others may find it triggering, particularly when they are first exploring their deeper connection with nature and energy healing modalities. Why? And are there ways to overcome a negative response?

First, it's essential to understand what spirituality means. Spirituality is often described as a belief in something beyond oneself, a sense of connectedness to a higher power or force, and a search for meaning and purpose in life. Spirituality can be expressed through various practices, including meditation, prayer, and ritual.

For those who are new to exploring spirituality, the word itself can be triggering. This may be because they have had negative experiences with religion or have been taught to fear anything that falls outside of their current belief system. Some may also feel intimidated by the concept of spirituality, as it can be challenging to define or understand.

Another reason why the word spirituality can be triggering is that it's often associated with a particular set of beliefs or practices. People may feel pressure to conform to these beliefs or practices, which can be uncomfortable, especially if they have yet to find their own path. This pressure can lead to feelings of inadequacy, which can be discouraging for those who are just starting their spiritual journey.

Furthermore, some people may feel that spirituality is too "woo-woo" or "out there" for them. They may worry that others will judge them for their beliefs or that they will be seen as strange or unapproachable. This fear of judgment can prevent people from exploring their spiritual side and discovering their deeper connection with nature and energy healing modalities.

So, what can be done to overcome these triggering feelings around spirituality? The first step is to recognize that spirituality means different things to different people. It's a personal journey, and there is no one "right" way to explore it. It's important to find what resonates with you and what feels authentic.

Secondly, it's helpful to approach spirituality with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Instead of feeling pressure to conform to a particular set of beliefs or practices, focus on exploring different modalities and ideas. Take what resonates with you and leave what doesn't.

Finally, it's essential to find a community of like-minded people who can offer support and guidance on your spiritual journey. Whether it's through a meditation group, yoga class, or an online community, connecting with others who share your interests can be incredibly helpful.

Words hold energy and power. The term spirituality holds so much meaning and so can be triggering for people who are first discovering their path and deeper connections. However, by approaching spirituality with an open mind, finding what resonates with you, and connecting with like-minded individuals, you can overcome these triggering feelings and embark on a meaningful journey which you can deem anything you wish. Spirituality is just a word and only you can assign meaning to it!
